About Dirac monopoles

چکیده
Dirac showed that the existence of one magnetic pole in the universe could offer an explanation of the discrete nature of the electric charge. This appealing property has motivated a large experimental effort thus far negative. We describe a scenario in which Dirac monopoles exist but are difficult to detect in isolation. We propose ways of looking to their signatures. Pacs: 14.80.Hv, 98.70.-f, 98.80.-k

0 Dirac Strings and Monopoles in the Continuum Limit of SU ( 2 ) Lattice Gauge Theory
Magnetic monopoles are known to emerge as leading non-perturbative fluctuations in the lattice version of non-Abelian gauge theories in some gauges. In terms of the Dirac quantization condition, these monopoles have magnetic charge |QM | = 2. Also, magnetic monopoles with |QM | = 1 can be introduced on the lattice via the ’t Hooft loop operator. We consider the |QM | = 1, 2 monopoles in the con...
متن کاملOn Explicit Point Multi-Monopoles in SU(2) Gauge Theory
It is well known that the Dirac monopole solution with the U(1) gauge group embedded into the group SU(2) is equivalent to the SU(2) Wu-Yang point monopole solution having no Dirac string singularity. We consider a multi-center configuration of m Dirac monopoles and n antimonopoles and its embedding into SU(2) gauge theory. Using geometric methods, we construct an explicit solution of the SU(2)...
متن کاملDirac and Yang monopoles revisited
The Dirac monopoles in 3-space and their generalization by C. N. Yang to 5-space are observed to be just the Levi-Civita spin connection of the cylindrical Riemannian metric on the 3and 5dimensional punctured spaces. Their straightforward generalization to higher dimensions is also investigated.
متن کاملMinicharges, Monopoles, and Magnetic Mixing
Minicharged particles (MCPs) arise naturally in extensions of the Standard Model with hidden sector gauge groups. Many such extensions also contain magnetic monopoles. For models containing both monopoles and MCPs, we clarify the role of the Dirac charge quantization condition in restricting the possible charges. We also show that monopoles of the hidden sector may manifest themselves as MCPs, ...
متن کاملG2-monopoles with singularities (examples)
G2-monopoles are solutions to gauge theoretical equations onG2-manifolds. If the G2-manifolds under consideration are compact, then any irreducible G2-monopole must have singularities. It is then important to understand which kind of singularities G2-monopoles can have. We give examples (in the noncompact case) of non-Abelian monopoles with Dirac type singularities, and examples of monopoles wh...
